The well-reputed international in dementia care, Alzheimers Disease International, is held every second year, this year in Lyon, France, 14th to 16th April. In 2026, more than 1500 academics, health care staff, people with dementia and carers from over 90 countries from all corners in the world met to share experiences & knowledge, they discussed and learned from each other through several oral sessions in plenary and symposiums, 672 posters, in addition to various showcases.
In the spirited conference center, EDEM was represented with two presentations from the same WG2-project in subgroup 1, Engage Persons & Family in Action, lead by dr. Nina Jøranson (Norway). This project investigates how facilitators of conversation groups for people with dementia facilitate and experience how ethical issues are handled during such conversations. Based on the protocol, researchers from seven countries; Denmark, Ireland, Lithuania, Israel, Italy, Poland, and Norway, developed site-specific findings which were cross-culturally analysed into metathemes. The project will be presented at the closing conference in Elbasan.
Dr. Hilde Lausund held a brilliant oral presentation on the symposium Breaking new ground in support for people living with dementia called “Safe spaces for Shared Stories: Ethical Reflections in Dementia Conversation Groups”.
Dr. Nina Jøranson had a poster presentation called “Inclusion, reciprocity and navigation: Facilitated conversations groups for people with dementia to discuss ethical issues”.
One of the Danish co-authors on both papers, dr. Diana Schack Thoft, was also present at ADI.
